new week, new goals

Happy Veteran’s Day!  Many thanks to everyone who makes the sacrifice for our freedom.  This includes the families of loved ones who are serving!

I wanted to get 20 miles in yesterday and only hit 50% of my goal.  Boo.  Oh well.  10 miles isn’t the worst thing in the world.  My mileage this past week wasn’t where I wanted it to be but hey, new week!  I’m tired of beating myself up when I don’t reach my goals.  I think this is part of the reason why I feel like running is a chore sometimes.

Now I will say I felt pretty strong during this run.  I did have to take some walk breaks – seriously, how do I crank out 13.1 in a race but then have to stop at mile 4 in training?!  But after I started running again I didn’t feel like I was slogging through oatmeal.  This was refreshing.

yep – something like this

I ran on the trail and going into it, I was feeling much more confident than when I started my 17 miler last weekend.  Now here’s the deal – I hate the trail.  It always gets the best of me!  It’s kind of like running on a treadmill without any entertainment.  I don’t like wearing headphones because I don’t feel super safe.  Not to mention, it feels like you are running forever and turns out it’s only been a 1/2 mile.

I was going to go for 14 or 16 but it was almost 5 pm and I had no desire to run in the woods in the dark.  There were a few people on the trail and they were all really friendly.  This is the one aspect that I actually enjoy about the trail.  This and running around campus when you come up to people with dogs they have no idea what to do so the dogs are very curious, sniffy and straying from their owners’ sides.  On the trail, dog owners hold their dogs tight on the leash or have them sit while I run past.  I know – it’s great.

Okay, you are probably bored out of your skull at this point in the post!  This week I want to increase my mileage and do some strength exercises.  Ooo – maybe even a bit of speed work!  And some visualization – I pictured myself running the full marathon in WDW.  I know what I want to accomplish and I want to have FUN!

  1. This whole getting-dark-early thing sucks. Good attitude though! It’s so easy to beat ourselves up. I meant to get in an 8 miler this weekend and well that did not happen. Hopefully I can get something in tomorrow!
