like a wrecking ball

Tuesday came in like a wrecking ball.

this cracks me up – his little bum is so funny!

I felt really ill and ended up losing my breakfast.  Sorry for the TMI but it this has a point (sort of).  Wednesday morning I still didn’t feel very well but much better than the day before.  After work I went for a fantastic run, came home and seriously, the endorphins were running wild!  And I was hungry for the first time in two days.  “I know!” I said to myself, “I’m going to have chicken taquitos!”  They are homemade but still, what is wrong with me?!  My poor tender tummy was quite displeased with me.  (I used this recipe from Annie’s Eats and I strongly recommend it!)

Alright, onto my fabulous run!  Like everywhere, MI has seen better winters.  In fact, this is the worst winter since 1996 or something.  Snow.  Snow EVERYWHERE, ALL DAY!  I came to a conclusion yesterday – like my T-Rex ancestors, I would not have survived the Ice Age.  On Monday I was so cold I just curled up in blankets and sweatpants/hoodie for a couple of hours.  My bones hurt.  Essentially, I would’ve been the weak link.

I couldn't find where this originated! I'm sorry artist

Anyway, when it got up to 40* yesterday I knew I wanted to run outside.  Apparently, I wasn’t the only runner with this thought – we were all over campus!  The first 2 miles weren’t great.  Campus is cleared really well but outside this radius sidewalks are still nasty so I just zig-zagged around as many dry sidewalks as I could find.  This included so.many.hills.

this was under the search “running hills”

At mile 2.45 I started to get into a groove and I didn’t want to sit on the side of the street hoping someone would pick me up anymore.  At mile 3.88 I realized I needed to start pushing the pace.  It definitely hurt but in that, “I’m a strong runner!” kind of way.  I finished out the run with 5 miles and negative splits.  I tweeted about it and my friend/coworker sent me this – I couldn’t stop laughing!

we share an office too - I laugh a lot

I forgot how happy running outside makes me.  I also forgot I had a 1/2 marathon in a week and half.  Truthfully, I thought it was March 15th and then I got an email on Monday saying it was March 2nd.  This is sooner than March 15th.  Oopsie.  It won’t be my best 1/2 ever.  However, I’m doing it with friends, it’s the 2nd year of this local 1/2 and a ton of area runners will be there.  It will be like a mini runner reunion.  Essentially, a really fun day with some pain!  Oh and a t-shirt and medal of course!

actually, I have no idea if there is a medal or not but this was sparkly… I liked it

Oh and my wish for a Twilight marathon came true!  Thank you FXX!

Do you ever get race dates mixed up?

a bit of a ramble

You know those weeks where you feel like you have lived so many days and then you look at the calendar and it’s only WEDNESDAY!  How is that possible?!

But I have fantastic news!  I woke up yesterday morning and went for a real honest to goodness RUN!  As in got out of bed at 6:45 am and was out the door and running by 7:15 am.  I know, I was shocked as well.  The first few steps were brutal.  But I finally got into a rhythm and ended up with 4.15 miles with a 10:18 pace.  At one point, I asked myself, “why are you doing this?”  Haha, but I was incredibly proud of myself.  I was a bad blogger though and forgot to take any pics!

Monday night I had to do 150 wall balls at crossfit.  My arms still hurt today!  Then tonight we worked on our running form and this nutso warm up that made my legs feel like jello.  We did 10 mountain climbers then did butt kickers.  10 more mountain climbers and high knees.  Our knees weren’t high enough so after 10 more mountain climbers we did more high knees.  10 mountain climbers and then lunges down and back.  Brutal.

me… although I did use a 14lb ball

My brain is kind of foggy.  I feel like I used it too much this week!  So, I am going to end this post before I ramble with no point, whatsoever!

we all need goals, right

race countdown and t-rex arms

River Bank 25k – 79 days

Ragnar Relay – 106 days

I definitely need to keep these countdowns RIGHT in front of me!  I have started training but kind of half-assed it so far this week.  I have never followed an actual training plan.  I’m not going to lie, I find training plans to be a bit intimidating.  They feel so structured, which usually isn’t my thing.  However, I am willing to give it a shot this time around since my willpower/motivation are temperamental right now.  I also know it takes 3 weeks to make a habit and when I used to run more consistently it was because it was a habit.  I miss it and need to dig deep to get back to it!  Instead of spending too much time like this

just so snuggly

Today I was SUPER responsible!  I renewed my tabs.  Yes, one small feat for some but I have the memory of gnat – at least for these kinds of things.  I am constantly forgetting to do these simple types of tasks.  I once borrowed Kindergarten Cop from the video store.  I ended up paying $45 for the damn VHS tape because I forgot to bring it back.  Forget remembering to get my oil changed, remembering what time my dentist appointment is or other mundane things that other people seem to remember with ease.  You know what else I found?  I actually had my proof of insurance in my car! Yay!  When I got pulled over in Detroit last month I was thanking my lucky stars the cop didn’t make me dig it out because I wasn’t sure I had it.  Now, I wish he had :)

I also tried a half of a 5mg melatonin – worked out great!  I have actually slept through the night now 3 nights in a row!  This is crazy for me!  I am really excited that this could help.  Sometimes during my lunch, I’ll be so exhausted that I have to lie down and today I didn’t feel that desperation to close my eyes.  Now, obviously from the picture above, I laid down after work but didn’t actually sleep more than just a few mins.  I have also been going to bed earlier.  Big win – who knew?  Hey, maybe it will even help with my gnat-like memory!

So by tomorrow I will have a training plan ready to go.  I’ll share it in case anyone else is looking for a bit of structure in their lives.  I have also signed up for yoga on Monday again and signed up for the Kalamazoo Mud Run.  It’s June 2nd and this is the same weekend as The Color Run.  I really wanted to do the color run but since the Ragnar is the following weekend I didn’t see how I could afford two trips to Chicago in a week and a half plus all of my Ragnar expenses.  Not to mention, the Mud Run is raising funds for clean water in Uganda so I like that part.  It’s a 5k (a little short) with obstacles.  Oh yeah, I’m SCREWED!  Remember my t-rex arms?!

see those useless lil' arms?! do you think he could pull himself over a wall?!

I’m excited for the challenge – or at least laughing my ass off when I can’t complete the actual challenge!  To be truthful, I feel like it will be kind of like the final round of Double Dare.  Remember this?  Remember the obstacle course at the end where they had to find the flags amongst all the goupy mess?  Man, I used to get so frustrated when the flag was right there! and the dumb ppl couldn’t find it.  I also used to dream about getting on the show so I could prove how easy the obstacle course really was.  What can I say?  I had strange dreams.  I have a feeling I’ll be looking pretty silly but I can sacrifice my dignity for a good cause.  Yes, I may have to cancel my pinterest and actually lift a weight or two before then!
