a water-drinking fiend

I did some of the running yesterday.  It wasn’t pretty.  I might have had something to do with me laying around until 8:15 pm and then attempting to coax my muscles into actually moving.  I’m fairly certain those muscles had atrophied during my couch laziness.  Of course that means today‘s run will be off the charts amazing – right?

I have the next two days off.  This week is spring break and I decided taking two days vacation was a good idea.  I was wrong – it was a fantastic idea!  I have all kinds of plans for this weekend, some of which involve some crafty business and cleaning all the things in my apt.  There is a chance none of this will happen and I will exist in my sweatpants and a hoodie, snuggling my cat.  It really is 50/50 at this point but I’m headed into it with some motivation.  Fingers crossed I can use this motivation for the greater good!

Today is the beginning of Lent.  I took one of those Buzzfeed surveys titled, “what you should give up for Lent”.  The survey determination?  Television.

Yep, I don’t know how I feel about this.  First of all, how does Buzzfeed know me so well?!  I swear, they have spies everywhere!  Or maybe they work for the NSA –  this makes more sense in my brain.  Anyway, this is probably a really good idea.  I’m sure I would get a lot more done if I didn’t spend time in front of the boob-tube.  However, I don’t want to give up tv.  There I said it.  But I could scale my tv watching down.  I should think of a time limit… or something.  I shall ponder this.

Last year I gave up my snooze button.  This was remarkably difficult.  I want to give it a shot again this year.  I failed my first day but I shall not give up!  I’m so completely addicted to my snooze button.  I set 3 alarms because I am this dependent on it.  I’ve read the science-y articles that say hitting snooze is detrimental to feeling awake but in the morning when I’m all warm and cozy it’s difficult to believe said science-y articles.

I also like to do things that are beneficial for Lent.  I guess the snooze button falls under this and I have a one or two other ideas that I’m hoping to put into action.

I got to pick these nummies up today!  Wahoo!

girl scout cookiesYou can bet your sweet bippy I tore into these about .03 seconds after I picked them up.  It would have been sooner but I figured stuffing my face with cookies in front of others would be less than appetizing.  I’m probably going to alienate many with this admission, nevertheless here is a truth about me:  I can’t stand Thin Mints.

Last and this is going to be TMI… I peed 10x yesterday!  This is huge for me!  To be honest, this is sometimes more than I pee in TWO days, let alone one.  I definitely have an issue with hydrating.  Today, I’m already on my third water bottle (24 oz) so I am very proud of myself.

What are you proud of yourself for?

Are you a Girl Scout cookie fan?  Which kind.

treats for my tummy and my feet!

So I realize there are 100’s of posts out there right now talking about how grateful they are and I will do that.  Tomorrow.  I’ll do it in pics so then you won’t have to use your tired, overstuffed brain too much!

Today?  Probably just a few ramblings… like many, I am super grateful to have a few days off.  I’ve done a better job than in past years taking time off that I need but having a real life structured break is simply kind of awesome.  I took this afternoon off and I plan to do the following: bake, run and  bake some more.  Turns out, I got lazy and will just be baking these three things over the next few days.  Let me show you what I will be baking:

1. Pumpkin pie.  Yes, boring but still ever so tasty.  A classic.  I hated pumpkin pie for YEARS!  Then one day I actually tried it and I’m fairly certain I fought my dad for the last piece.

2.  Pumpkin pie MUFFINS!  Yes, can you see the theme?  These are muffins with pumpkin pie INSIDE!  I know… food heaven.  Actually, the nutrition stats aren’t terrible and the recipe has a lot of healthier alternatives.  170 for a muffin?  Not too shabby when you are splurging!

these look sooooo delish!

3.  Ummm… okay, these are in no way shape or form good for you… they are Cinnamon Roll cookie bars.  LOOK AT THIS PIC!  I’m kind of obsessed with cinnamon rolls.  I love them.  If it were possible to simply make one then I would be a happy camper.  I am going to make these but have plans to give many away.  Or eat the whole pan… who knows!

I might be slightly excited to make these!

Click on the top two pics for the recipes!

I’m super excited for my run tomorrow  – why?  These babies came in!

love

Last week (!! crazy mad shipping Mizunos, you rock!) my dear friend Meagan won a pair from FasterBunny.  When she logged on, Mizunos gave a second pair to give to someone else and that someone was ME!  Yes, I felt incredibly special.

thanks M – you are the bomb! btw, we need a new running pic!

After some very thorough research online and through twitter (it’s very scientific!) as well as a quick visit to my local running store, I decided on the Inspires 9.  They were really comfy and I am looking for a shoe with a bit more cushion, a bit of stability and of course some flair for my longer runs.  I can’t wait to run in these!

I would say the only odd thing is they feel sort of big.  As I mentioned, I tried them on and in normal shoes I wear a 7.5.  In many running shoes I wear an 8.  In both these and my Brooks PureCadence I wear an 8.5.  I ran up and down the sidewalk today and they feel pretty good.  Tomorrow will be the real test.

Okay, have I bored you enough?  Happy Thanksgiving eve!

definitely grateful…

I can’t figure out where the time has been going lately!  I can’t seem to get my posts done at a reasonable hour!  Thankfully, running out of time hasn’t been because of anything bad – I simply have been busy.

I haven’t done a grateful post in a long time but this doesn’t mean I haven’t had things to be grateful for – in fact quite the opposite!  Here’s a list!

1.  I had a dentist appointment today – boo!  I really wasn’t looking forward to it because I thought I might get a firm chat about my lack of use of my mouth guard.  Thankfully, this didn’t happen!  Then my hygienist told me I had the prettiest eyes.  Okay, I will go back there next week for my crown :)

2.  I FINALLY was able to stock back up on this peanut butter – it’s my FAVORITE!

oh yeah – the label is CORRECT! The IS the bee’s knees!

3.  I also stocked up on this tasty business

this ketchup is really good – the fact that it has way less sodium is a big win for me

what I really appreciate about this ketchup is it’s good, a little bit sweeter than the regular kind but doesn’t make me feel like I have been sucking on a salt lick when I am done with my dinner.

4.  One more food pic – can you tell I was hungry when I wrote this?!

yes, this is cottage cheese and tortilla chips – I know… please don’t ask too many questions!

My friend Emily told me about this combo and I thought it sounded disgusting.  Then I tried it and I was pleasantly surprised – wahoo!  Another snack to crave that will go straight to my hips! ;)

5.  I went for a run today.  I really didn’t want to go this evening.  I was tired, I have a big day tomorrow and sitting on my couch seemed MUCH more appealing.  I told myself, just go and you only have to run a little bit.  I ended up running 3 miles, walking 2 and then running 1 more mile home.  Somehow, my first 3 miles were an average 10:20 pace and my last mile was 10:30.  I was trying to slow them down since I was getting tired but my legs totally had a mind of their own.  I was happy about it!  I do need to work on my overall fitness since my lungs were having a wee bit of trouble keeping up with my legs!

6.  This little guy

he is just tooooo cute

did you know it’s only $50,000 to clone Simon?  I could have a little Simon FOR-E-VER!  The poor guy is so furry so I turn on the fan and he sits right in the pathway of the cool air.  Neither one of us were too happy about the 90* heat on Sunday!

7.  I got to help celebrate a birthday last week!  I love celebrating birthdays – mine and friends’!  I feel birthdays are so important – everyone should feel special for AT LEAST one day a year!

There are a ton of other things and for some reason now I can’t remember them!  I have realized paying attention to what I am grateful for has changed some of my thinking.  Last week, I had really stressful day at work and before I started this the stress would have eaten away at me.  But I am getting much better at ousting the negative thoughts and recognizing the GOOD things that happen – even amidst the stress.  This is HUGE for me!  It’s amazing how much happier in general I am.  I also have found I see much more to be grateful for in a day than ever before.  When I first started this, I would write things in my personal journal and I would struggle to find 2 or 3.  This has changed completely – now my mind immediately jumps to the positive things rather than the negative.  Yay!

yummy confetti and some race business

Today I totally caved… as in completely

oh yeah, that’s the yummy confetti blizzard… I tried to resist!

Yep, this was pretty good!

On Sunday was the Kalamazoo Marathon and Borgess 1/2.  One thing I realized very quickly, I essentially only know one way to get everywhere here in Kzoo and all of these routes were blocked for runners!  Not to mention, I was also on the hunt for some coffee and right as I would get a place in sight, I would find it blocked off… So, not only was I driving all over but I wasn’t even caffeinated enough to problem solve.  SUCH a tough life I lead

I pretty much sucked up all the race enthusiasm from runners and supporters – it was fantastic!

Thankfully, I figured things out and made it just in time to see Emily pass the 1/2 way point of the 1/2.  She looked great!  Yeah, doesn’t it kind of want to make you punch her in the face here?  I mean, seriously, I NEVER look this happy when running 13.1 miles!

Emily and Daryl at the race! Emily is running to a PR! Wahoo!

Special thanks to Amber Hutson for the above photo and the following one.  My camera battery went dead – boo.  Thankfully Amber got some amazing shots!

here is Brian (in the red) finishing his first FULL! Wahoo! Congrats! Mike is just ahead of him and they were both VERY happy to cross that finish line!

I also got to see my former running partner finish – Rob!  You did FABULOUS!  I thought I would be super jealous watching everyone else race and part of me was.  But the other part just LOVED being there for my friends’ races.  I was so proud of them and so happy for their accomplishments.  I know how hard it is to train for weeks and weeks for one day.  Emily hit a PR and Brian got his full marathon.  While we were getting ready to cheer Brian in, both Emily and our other friend Nate were talking about just how painful 26.2 miles really are.  All I could think of was, “great scott, I just paid for a full!”  But it was still so much fun to be there and sharing in all of the running high-ness (gotta be a phrase, right?!)  Heck – I was even pretty happy to crawl out of bed at 7:45 am (even though I went to bed at 3 am) just so I could spectate!

Now, I will say spectating is HARD WORK! Even Simon thought so ;)

we were both pretty beat!

I guess that’s all I have for today.  Check out Get Fit Naturally for a CLICK espresso protein drink give-away (I know, those are some of my favorite words all in one product!)

future trip home!

Have you heard the best time to buy a plane ticket is on Tuesdays at 3 pm?  I didn’t quite make the the 3 pm deadline but I did get my ticket today to go back and visit my family in Port Angeles, WA!  I didn’t even have to sell a kidney in order to afford it!

here is an awesome pic of Port Angeles (nope, didn't take it - click on it for credit!)

Port Angeles is on the Strait of Juan de Fuca (yes, I have always LOVED to say this!) and it’s about 3 hours northwest of Seattle, WA.  One of the slogans is, “Where the Mountains meet the Sea” since the town is nestled in the Olympic Mountains.  I’m not going to lie, this is one of the prettiest places in the U.S.  If you ever get a chance, come out and visit!

yes, this is a real tree - we grow 'em big out there!

Not only will I be spending some much needed time with my family, I will be running a half marathon.  My family has never seen me run a race and I am really excited to do with this race with them in attendance.  All of this fun business will be taking place in July.  This is where I am hoping for a 1/2 PR – sub 2 hours!!

chocolate? champagne? running? AWESOME!

Today I also realized I am going to have one heck of a busy summer!  I mentioned the waves of panic that swept over me the other night and I figured out today the only way to avoid this is to GET ORGANIZED.  Now, classic organization isn’t one of my strengths – I definitely have my own style.  This style needs to be tightened up a bit or else I am going to flounder!  So I started, “The MONSTER To-Do List” today.  It has the fun things I want to do and the mundane things I have to do.  Luckily, I also have mega-organized friends who have offered to help – thanks friends, you da bomb!  Once I have more of the fun stuff on there, I’ll put the list on here.  I am determined to have a FUN summer!

Oh yeah, and can I just say how MAD I am at Dairy Queen for introducing this?!

noooo!! why would you do this DQ?! some of us have training plans to stick to you!

My hips, thighs and bum hate you Dairy Queen… and kind of love you at the same time.  If you can’t tell from the pic, its funfetti cake and blizzard.  YUM!

Don’t forget!  You have until tomorrow at 5 pm to enter my give-away!
